Une crise de foie

So here we are to announce the next soirée at Mange Disque which will take place tomorrow. I always love nights there, because I can get away with anything I like. Like being on the radio, except with a live audience.

So for this time, I picked the theme I thought the French would know the least about. Country music. One of those words to send a cringe up even many an American's spine.

But why? Discarding the commercial crap pumped out of Nashville these days, what a fascinating tradition: yodeling, banjos (brought by African slaves to the States), hard drinking, bad romance and shooting people for no good reason. All of human existence rolling into one tiny little song.

To wit:

Une crise de foie et une coeur brisé (Bad Liver and a Broken Heart): A Night of Country and Western and Other Related Health Problems.

at Mange Disque
58 rue de la fontaine au roi; Paris 11è
Thursday, April 6 21h à 2h

And a little something to get you in the mood:

Goebel Reeves
(The Texas Drifter) - The Yodelin' Teacher
