Before It All Went to Shit III: L'appel cochon
In his third installment of "Before It All Went to Shit," DJ WhistlePunk takes a hexagonical look at underground Punk and New Wave, this time putting the music en francaise in the spotlight.
Around the time of Chirac's "Call of Cochin" in 1978, the French took a nod from their island neighbor up north (and a former colony of said neighbor) and exploded their own punk and new wave scenes. Fast, humorous, and, like punk itself, faded all too quickly, the French scene is a rich hidden gem -- often unknown even to the French themselves -- that is just beginning to be rediscovered.
So take a trip with us back with us to when Elli Medeiros was punk, New Rose Records kept the 6รจ hopping and a Belgian Bertrand borrowed Motello's backing band to keep everything plane-ing pour nous.
